Prepare Your Home For Winter

Prepare Your Home for WinterWell, it looks like our brilliant British summer has finally come to an end which means, dark nights, dark mornings and cold temperatures all day long. The weather that winter brings with it can have some seriously detrimental effects on your home which is why it is imperative that you ensure your home is winter proof this year.

Soon it will be too late to fortify your home and you will certainly feel the consequences when the ice, wind and snow come along. Here are some areas that you should make sure are up to scratch this year.

Insulation is key to keeping the warmth in and the cold out of your house when it is freezing outside. Stuffing your walls and loft with insulation will be sure to help your home stay warm and in turn this will hopefully slash your energy bills.

Boiler service

You will be relying on your boiler throughout the winter so it is crucial that you get it serviced in time to ensure there will be no breakages later down the line where the weather will be unbearable without your toasty heating. Getting it serviced will also get it working to its maximum potential which means you will probably make your money back on the lower energy bills as a result.

Your windows can be the most important thing to help keep the cold out and the heat in and you should definitely get these serviced to ensure they are the best they can be. Double and triple glazing is available at Warmseal and this is a great way to reduce your bills which will be guaranteed to save you money in the long run.

Your windows need to be air tight to keep the heat circulating around your home so make sure that there is no condensation forming on between the panes because this means that the seal has been broken.

Your doors are another source of entry for the cold air outside so this can be a problem area in the winter time. A lot of people buy wind blockers that lie at the bottom of their doors but at Warmseal we have doors that are designed especially to keep the cold out and the heat in. No more will you need to stuff things in front of your door, which is not at all practical, and instead you will have a nice warm home that looks great with a smart new door.

Roof and gutters

I cannot stress how important it is to check your roof and gutters for any maintenance issues such as cracks or any out of place tiles. The last thing you want this winter is a load of leaks and blockages to deal with which can be long lasting issues which will plague you throughout the cold months.

It is also advisable to make sure your guttering and roof is strong enough to withstand the terrible weather that we are guaranteed to have coming our way. The freezing temperatures can cause cracks and the heavy snow can shift things around as well as the wind so make sure your house is ready for all that is coming our way.
