Protect Your Home Whilst on Holiday

Protect HomeWith summer just around the corner most of you will be planning your sunny getaway and this is a great chance to leave the worries of day to day life behind you and just forget about it all for a few weeks. You’ve worked hard for this holiday and deserve to enjoy it to the full. This is easy if you have complete peace at mind that things back home are safe and secure. One potential risk to going on holiday is that you leave your home unattended for a period of time which, sadly, in the world that we live in puts you at risk of being burgled. Here are a few tips that will help you enjoy your holiday, knowing that your home is safe whilst you’re away.

One final check

Locking Door

It is imperative that you ensure all windows, doors and other points of potential entry are firmly locked and secure. This may sound obvious but you’d be surprised at how many burglaries take place because a window has been left slightly ajar. Even top floor windows are a potential hazard for getting your belongings stolen so go through every room in the house and make sure it’s all locked and secure. This includes exterior rooms such as the garden shed, which may contain expensive equipment as well as some tools that could help to force an entry to your home, and the garage which will undoubtedly house your car.

Doors and windows can often be flimsy and easy to break down but there are certain double and triple glazed options that are fitted with top of the range security features which will deter even the most handy of burglar. Also, you can buy doors that have the same level of safety which will leave you with peace of mind when you’re relaxing in the sun.

You may also like to make sure that everything that needs to be switched of is off because the last thing you want is to come home to a burnt out kitchen which leaves you homeless for the next few months.

Home security gadgets

Home Alarm System

There are plenty of innovative gadgets that can help your home to deter any potential risk and you should consider using most of them all year round. A home alarm system is the perfect piece of technology to keep your home safe whilst you’re away and this can be used every time you leave the house or even when you’re upstairs sleeping. You can also buy little alarms to fit to your front and back door and windows which sounds a siren when the window or door is moved in anyway. If the burglar does manage to get through your door they won’t be staying long when they hear this sound.

Strategic lighting is another effective way to scare off any burglars. You can buy lamps that can be put on a timer which means you can have lights turning on and off every now and then which will give off the impression that you are still home. Outdoor security lights are also popular as they come on when the sensor detects movement and this could easily attract your neighbour’s attention.

Alert Friends and family

Let a friend or family member know that you’re away and kindly ask if they could pop round every now and then to check on the house. They could get rid of any piles of letters that accumulate at your door and they could open and close blinds every now and then to give the impression that someone is home.

All of these tips will help you to enjoy the family break that you have been looking forward to for so long.
